MO 2010 Active Public Drinking Water Systems (SHP)
vector digital data
This point layer represents active public drinking water systems. Each public drinking water system's distribution or service area is represented by a single point.
This layer was originally developed for use in the MoDNR-funded Vulnerability Assessment (VA) of Missouri Public Drinking Water to Chemical Contamination Project at CARES. The VA project was implemented in 1991 by MoDNR. MoDNR contracted with CARES to conduct this assessment. The project is designed to determine which, if any, public water supplies are threatened by any chemicals being tested under the Safe Drinking Water Act

This point layer represents active public drinking water systems. Each public drinking water system is represented by a single point. The data were compiled from several data sets including wells, storage tanks, treatment plants, and water districts. The location of the point should not be construed as representing the actual location of any system.
Only active, primary systems are included in this data set. Secondary systems or systems that purchase all of their water and have no infrastructure of their own have not been included in this data set.
This point layer represents the approximate location of an active public drinking water system's distribution of service area. Each public drinking water system is represented by a single point. The point is a generalized or mean location compiled from several data sets including wells, storage tanks, treatment plants, and water districts. It should not be construed as representing the actual location of any system.

ground condition
1. New shapefiles were created from locations of active public water system pumps, intakes, tanks, and wells. Only facilities with an "Active" status were included. 2. A centroid shapefile was created from water districts that had an "active" status. 3. Using the merge command ,the above data sets were compiled into a point shapefile. 4. All fields except for the IPWS and PWSNAME were removed from the data set. 5. Using the MEAN CENTER tool a point was constructed from the average x and y values for the input feature centroids. 6. The output file from the MEAN CENTER was joined using the IPWS field to the file created in step 3. 7. All fields except for the IPWS and PWSNAME were removed from the data set 8. The above file was exported to the shapefile SPWSSYST.

PUB_SYSTEMS
IPWS
A nine-character string comprised of the public water system identification number (PWSSID) with the MO prefix for Missouri. This is a national numbering system imposed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). This is the primary identifier used in linking public water system data to the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS).
-9999 A IPWS number has not been assigned to the water system.
PWSSNAME
Public water system (PWS) name.
Shape
Feature geometry.
ESRI
Coordinates defining the features.
FID
Internal feature number.
ESRI
Sequential unique whole numbers that are automatically generated.
