MO 2015 Depth to Bedrock (SHP)
vector digital data
ftp://msdis.missouri.edu/pub/Geological_Geophysical/MO_2015_Depth_to_Bedrock_shp.zip
This data set was created to depict the overburden thickness or depth to bedrock in the State of Missouri.
Depth to bedrock, or overburden thickness, is depicted by contours with a 25 foot interval. Contours were generated from a raster interpretation of approximately 150,000 records of well data from Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Geological Survey's Well Information Management System (WIMS) database of certified water wells and LOGMAIN database of water well strip-log files.
The metadata content associated with this feature class was reviewed by Barb Ruppel on 20131205. The metadata content review is intended to ensure that all of the required content is present. The components comprising the metadata document were reviewed by Barb Ruppel on 20131205. The metadata component review is intended to ensure that required metadata components are consistent and understandable to data consumers.

Accuracy of source data for point values varies widely.
Well record data from Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Geological Survey's Well Information Management System (WIMS) database of certified water wells and LOGMAIN database of water well strip-logs was evaluated for bedrock competency and lithology, such as limestone, dolostone, sandstone and shale. Approximately 150,000 records possessed sufficient data and spatial distribution for inclusion into the data set to produce the contours.

The well record data sets from both databases were rasterized separately using the natural neighbor interpolation tool. The WIMS dataset primarily covers the central portion of the state. The LOGMAIN dataset covers the northern and Bootheel regions of the state. Merging the two datasets before generating the raster and contours would have skewed the very clear image of glacial channels in northern Missouri created by the grid-like pattern of wells drilled for the LOGMAIN database.

The individual rasters were contoured, again separately, then merged together via hand editing. Contours are in a 25 foot interval.
